Thought I was too old for anime until my nephew showed me Vinland Saga
I'm 46 and always figured anime was just weird kid stuff with big eyes and screaming. My nephew came over to help me pour a small concrete pad in my backyard last summer and he wouldn't shut up about this show Vinland Saga. He made me watch the first episode on his laptop while we waited for the mix to set. I gotta admit, the way they showed the viking stuff and that main guy's journey from revenge to something else really hooked me. Has anyone else had a show completely flip your opinion on a whole genre like that?

The "small eyes and screaming" thing is mostly true for some shows, Vinland Saga is way different though. A lot of people say the same thing about anime until they see something like this that's more grounded and serious. One thing though - Vinland Saga isn't actually about vikings in the historical sense, it's set in that time period but it's more of a fictional story inspired by real sagas. The main character Thorfinn does go through that revenge to peace arc really well, it's one of the best parts of the show. If you liked that, give Monster or Erased a shot, they're both slow paced shows with real adult characters and no screaming kids. Just goes to show that the whole "anime is for kids" thing is more about what you watch than the medium itself.

One more thing - the dub actually keeps the nordic accents, makes it feel way more real.
