The dub vs sub debate is dead - I found the real trick to enjoying anime more
I used to stress about watching everything subbed because the internet said it was the "correct" way. Last month I gave up on that entirely and just started watching whatever format I felt like at the moment. Switched to dubs for One Piece during cooking and subs for serious shows like Vinland Saga when I can focus. My enjoyment went way up and I stopped feeling guilty about it. Anyone else just switch between both based on the scene?

Have you ever had that moment where you're halfway through an episode and realize you forgot to switch the audio? I did that with Attack on Titan once, watched ten minutes in Japanese before I noticed and by then I was too invested to change it... ended up finishing the season that way. Now I kind of mix it up depending on my mood too, sometimes I'll watch the first episode of something in dub just to see how voices sound and then switch later.

lol that "too invested to change it" part is exactly what gets me. once you're locked in with the voices, swapping them feels like watching a different show entirely. question for you though - do you ever go back and rewatch stuff in the other language after you finish? like does it change how you feel about a character when their voice is totally different, or is it just a vibe thing for you?

Yeah the "watching a different show" thing is too real. I tried going back to watch a few episodes of Death Note in Japanese after finishing it dubbed and the main guy sounded like he was about to cry every line. Hard pass. I stick with whatever I picked first and pretend the other version doesn't exist honestly.
