Spent 4 hours trying to figure out why my Crunchyroll stream kept buffering

I was trying to watch the new season of One Piece last night, but the video kept freezing every 5 minutes. Turned out my router was set to the wrong frequency band, and I had to dig through 3 different menus in my ISP's app to fix it. Has anyone else had a streaming issue that took way too long to solve for something so simple?

oh man I read this article a while back about how most smart TVs and streaming devices actually default to 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz even when the 5GHz signal is way better for video. and the thing is you can't even tell which band youre on half the time without diving into some hidden menu somewhere. I had a similar nightmare with my Fire Stick where it kept dropping to 480p and I spent like two days changing DNS settings and clearing cache before realizing my microwave was literally sitting right next to the router. like who designs these interfaces for real people anyway.

Why do they even let us think we have a choice when the hardware just does whatever it wants? My TV does the same thing and it drives me nuts.

Oh man the microwave thing is TOO real. I had the exact same problem with my Roku where it would buffer like crazy every time I made popcorn. Took me way too long to figure out it wasn't my internet dying. And yeah the whole "hidden menu" thing is ridiculous. I shouldn't need a YouTube tutorial just to check what WiFi band my TV is on.
