Rewatching a show from 2021 hit different last night

I was scrolling through Crunchyroll around 2 AM last Tuesday and decided to throw on an old show I first watched during lockdown in 2021. Back then I binged 12 episodes in one sitting on a Thursday night, didn't sleep, and thought it was the greatest thing ever. This time around I noticed so many plot holes and weird pacing issues that I completely missed before. Part of me wonders if I was just bored and desperate for entertainment back then, or if my standards actually went up. The animation still holds up though, I will give it that. Has anyone else gone back to an older favorite and felt totally different about it?

Same thing happened to me with a 2020 show last month.

Yeah, the "happened to me with a 2020 show" thing really hit home. I finally got my old recordings to play by switching to a different streaming service. Tried the usual stuff like clearing cache and restarting, but that didn't work at all. What finally did it was downloading the episode straight to my phone before watching it. Might be worth a shot if you haven't tried that yet.

Three years ago I downloaded a 2019 episode from my usual streaming app and it played fine... but then six months later that same file wouldn't open no matter what I tried. The app told me it was corrupted, so I had to go back to the original source and redownload it. People act like downloading fixes everything, but storage corruption happens all the time, especially on older phones. Nokia brick phones lasted forever, but today's streaming apps rewrite files in ways that break them after a few years. That's why I keep physical copies on an external drive too.
