Recap episodes are not filler, and I'm tired of pretending they are
In my experience, they're key for keeping everyone on track in group talks. Your mileage may vary, but brushing them off just shuts down good chat.

Don't recaps also help spark new ideas in those group talks?

Recaps are the group chat's version of hitting the pause button so everyone can catch their breath... and maybe realize they've been arguing about two totally different things. The Thomas over there finally saw the light after a recap sparked something new, which is basically the whole point. Calling them filler is like saying a roadmap is just extra paper in the glove box. They keep the whole train on the tracks, otherwise we're all just shouting into a tunnel.
