My volume knob on my Denon receiver just gave up last night
I was watching episode 7 of Vinland Saga and went to turn it down during a loud scene. The knob just spun freely with no resistance, no volume change at all. I had to dig out the remote from between the couch cushions since that still works fine. Has anyone else had a knob fail on a 3 year old receiver like that?

Man that exact same thing happened to me on my Denon X1600H about a year ago. The plastic shaft that connects the knob to the encoder just snaps on these, it's a known weak point. You can either buy a replacement encoder on Amazon for like 8 bucks and solder it yourself, or if you're not handy with a soldering iron, just enable the input rename function in the menu and use the remote for everything from now on. I've been doing that and honestly you don't even notice the knob being gone after a week.

Wait, you mean the plastic shaft on the encoder literally snapped? That is wild. I always figured those knobs were metal inside or something, not some cheap little plastic piece that breaks off. It just seems crazy that something like that is a known weak point on a receiver that costs that much. I get that it's just a knob, but still, for the price you pay you'd think they could put a little more than eight bucks worth of parts into it. I would be so annoyed if mine did that, I'd probably just glue it back on and hope for the best.
