Just realized that skipping the filler episodes isn't always the right call

I used to skip all filler in One Piece but then I went back and watched the G-8 arc which everyone online hyped up and honestly it was legitimately funnier and better paced than some of the canon stuff, has anyone else found a filler arc that actually improved their experience?

G-8 is legit the only filler that felt like it belonged in the show. Most filler makes me want to fast forward through the entire episode.

Come on @abby_wilson51, you're really gonna put G-8 on a pedestal like that? It's fine for what it is, but calling it the only filler that belongs is a stretch. Half of it is just the crew goofing around on a marine base, and the other half is them hiding in dumb places. I don't get why people treat it like some hidden masterpiece when it's pretty standard shonen padding. The Foxy arc is way more memorable even if it's goofy, and at least that one had some actual stakes and a fight. G-8 is just a long comedy sketch that overstays its welcome by like ten episodes.

Hold on, you're really selling G-8 short if you're calling it just standard padding. The comedy in that arc works because the crew is actually using their brains to get out of a tight spot, not just punching their way through everything. Compared to something like the Foxy arc which is basically just a long, tedious game show that goes nowhere, G-8 has a real beginning, middle, and end with actual tension underneath the jokes. The way they hide and the running gag about the marine captain having a gut feeling about them is clever writing, you don't see that level of care in most filler. Calling it "standard shonen padding" is like saying the Alabasta dance filler is the same quality as this, which just isn't true.
