I rewatched Cowboy Bebop at 32, and realized I missed the whole point at 14
I first watched Cowboy Bebop on a burned DVD set in my college dorm back in 2010, and I thought it was just a cool space bounty hunter show. Last month I rewatched the whole run in 4 sittings, and the episode where Spike watches the old Betamax tape hit me completely differently. At 14 I wanted action and a cool ship; now I keep thinking about how every character is running from a past they can't outrun. Does anyone else have a show that completely changed meaning after you grew up a bit?
The thing that got me on rewatch is how the Bebop itself is basically a character, this old hunk of junk they all pile into because none of them have anywhere else to go. It's not just a ship, it's the only home these people have left, and that hits way harder when you've moved a few times yourself.
