Hit 500 subs and immediately got ratioed into the shadow realm
I uploaded my 500th video, a breakdown of the new mecha anime's animation cuts, and within 4 hours the top comment was a 2-paragraph essay calling my analysis 'surface level clickbait'. That single thread tanked my engagement to 12 views the next day, and I'm second-guessing every frame I've ever praised. Is this just the cost of hitting a milestone in this community, or did I miss some unwritten rule about not promoting your own breakdowns?

500 videos is exactly when the algorithm starts testing whether you're a creator or a channel that just repeats itself. The 12 views the next day probably had more to do with how the comment section turned off new viewers, not the milestone itself. I've seen channels with 10k subs get the same treatment when they post a hot take on a popular show, so it's not you, it's the timing. The real question is, did that essay actually bring up any points that made you rethink a cut you praised? If it did, use that for the next video, if it didn't, then you just got a taste of what happens when you post on a day when bigger channels dropped their takes.
