Got through my first rewatch of Evangelion without having a breakdown

I first watched it back in high school and it messed me up for a week. This time I caught a lot of the religious symbolism I missed before, like how the Angels are named after actual biblical beings. Has anyone else had a totally different experience rewatching an older anime as an adult?

Wait, you got through it without a breakdown? I literally had to pause and go for a walk after that scene with Unit 01 going berserk.

Oh man, I used to be one of those people who thought the berserk Unit 01 stuff was just over the top shock value. lmao I was wrong. That whole sequence hits different when you realize it's not just about the cool monster design, it's Shinji's complete loss of control and his mom's primal rage mixed together. It honestly changed my whole view on the series and made me appreciate how messed up the whole parent-child dynamic really is. I get why you needed a walk, I was just sitting there stunned like "wait, this is supposed to be a kid's show?
