Dub vs sub debates are stuck on the wrong argument
Every time the dub vs sub thing comes up, people fight about voice acting or translation accuracy. But I've been rewatching some older shows from the early 2000s, like the 2001 Fruits Basket dub, and the real issue is the script direction, not the VA talent. The actors sound flat because the localization was written to match lip flaps, not emotion. Has anyone else gone back to a classic dub and noticed the timing just kills the delivery?
Lip flap matching is the worst, you can hear the actors waiting for their cue instead of just talking. Go watch the original audio on those same scenes and it's night and day.
