Dropped in a suggestion thread about 'must watch anime' and got burned bad
Some guy in a Discord server told me to skip reading the manga for Attack on Titan and just watch the anime because he said the pacing was better. I followed his advice and binged all 89 episodes in two weeks. Turns out he never actually read the manga and the anime has a ton of filler scenes that slow things down way more than the manga ever did. Anyone else get bad recommendations from people who just parrot what they heard online?

Came here to say that guy probably got his take from a YouTube video made by someone who also never read the manga. It's a whole chain of people repeating bad info without checking it. I actually read the entire AOT manga before watching the show. The manga has this tight pacing where every chapter moves the plot forward. The anime adds those long reaction shots of characters staring at nothing and extended fight sequences that drag out battles. It's like they thought the original story needed more drama but really it just makes the episodes feel padded out. Your friend should probably actually read the source material before giving advice next time.

@milesj70 nailed it with that chain of bad info thing, Ive seen it happen a dozen times. Actually ran into this exact problem with a buddy who told me to skip the One Piece manga and just watch the anime because the pacing was better. I was skeptical but gave it a shot. Got to episode 500 and realized I spent way too much time watching characters run down hallways and react to stuff for five minutes that took one page in the manga. Lesson learned the hard way. Now I always check the source material myself before taking someone's word for it, even if they sound confident. Most people just repeat what they heard from some influencer or a random Reddit thread without ever cracking a book open.
