Hot take: Forced VR teamwork with randoms now has me nodding at bus drivers

I used to totally ignore people in public, like they were background noise. Last month, I got stuck in a VR puzzle world with three strangers for an hour. We had to shout clues and literally pass virtual tools to escape. That weird pressure to cooperate with unknowns actually felt good. Now I catch myself giving a quick smile or nod to the bus driver when I get on. It is not a deep talk, but it feels like a tiny human link. VR fake problems taught me real ones are easier with a bit of contact.

Seriously? So we need fake goggles now to remember how to be polite? Next thing you know, an app will teach us to say "bless you" when someone sneezes.

The "tiny human link" part really got me. I was the same, headphones always in, avoiding eye contact like a sport. After a few coop games where you actually have to talk to win, I started noticing the cashier's mood or saying "thanks" to delivery guys. It's not some big change, but those micro connections make existing around other people feel less like a chore.

Funny how those little forced interactions in games can bleed into real life. You start seeing all the other scripted moments that let you practice being a person, like the whole dance of ordering coffee or making small talk in a waiting room. Those low stakes routines kinda train you for the bigger, unplanned chats. It turns the whole world into a sort of easy coop mode where you don't need to carry the conversation, just pass the ball back once in a while.
