That scraggly mint plant from my neighbor is now a balcony jungle

I almost tossed it thinking it was a lost cause, lol. After repotting and some regular watering, it exploded and I'm making mint tea all summer. What's one plant that totally surprised you by thriving in your urban setup?

Mint plants are usually tough, but from scraggly to jungle? No way. They spread like crazy once they get going, but starting from near death is wild. My surprise was a basil plant that refused to die on my fire escape.

Honestly, mint is basically a weed with good PR. It'll grow in a crack in the sidewalk if you give it a dirty look. My surprise was a jalapeño plant on a windowsill that got so loaded with peppers the stem bent. I had to prop it up with a chopstick like some kind of plant ICU.
