PSA: Electric bikes aren't the commuter fix everyone claims
My neighbor loves his, but I tried it and the lack of charging stations is a big issue. It's not as green as people think if you're always hunting for power, lol.

Saw a study last year that said the green part totally depends on where your local power plant gets its fuel. If it's all coal, is it really that much better than a small car? The charging thing is real, my cousin gave up on his because his apartment building wouldn't let him run a cord to the parking lot. And what happens to all those batteries in a few years?

Reminds me of my phone battery swelling up last year, scary stuff.

That point about power plants is huge, because if your electricity comes from dirty sources, you're just moving the pollution somewhere else. And people don't talk enough about how making these bikes and their batteries takes a lot of energy and resources too. Then there's the whole battery waste thing - where do all those dead batteries go, and can we even recycle them properly? Plus, without good charging spots, it's like having a phone you can't plug in, which makes the whole convenience argument fall apart. So yeah, maybe they're not the magic fix after all.
