Wow, I actually used to think that seemed a bit over the top, but you just changed my mind. It's not just for your own comfort, it gives someone else a real-time check on your trip (which is pretty smart). I guess having that open line is a solid backup if your phone dies or something goes weird. Makes the driver aware they're kind of on speaker too, which probably helps keep things calm for everyone.

Diana's call tip is smart, I read a news story where that helped, kinda like what @val315 said about drivers acting better when watched.
