Was convinced the basalt columns at Devil's Postpile were volcanic, but a ranger in Mammoth Lakes pointed out the glacial polish and I felt dumb.

Exactly! That polish is the real proof. It's like the glacier took a giant sheet of sandpaper to the top of those columns. Once you see it, you can't unsee it, and you start spotting the same smoothed-out surfaces on other rocks all over the Sierra.

Oh man, same! I always just assumed it was all volcanic activity. Seeing that smooth polish up close totally flipped my view. It's wild how glaciers can shape rock like that. Makes you look at the whole landscape differently. I love when a simple fact completely changes how you see a place.
