Warning: This new gene-editing tech for wheat has my farming friends split down the middle

Can someone explain if tweaking crops like this is a smart fix or just asking for trouble down the line?

CRISPR for wheat was first shown to work in 2014. In my experience, these debates always hype up the unknown risks. We've been changing crop genes through old school breeding for ages without much drama. Your mileage may vary, but I'd need to see real proof of long term harm before calling it serious.

My 2014 wheat experiment was riskier than CRISPR.

Old school breeding is one thing, but CRISPR? Heard it's tricky, @morgan_torres6.
