My cousin in Omaha said we should just 'fix' all genetic diseases and be done with it

We were at a family barbecue last summer and he waved his hand like it was nothing. Has anyone else had a chat that made the ethics feel way too simple?

Man, that reminds me of my uncle who thinks we can just "fix" traffic by banning left turns. People love simple answers for messy problems.

My old neighbor was the same way (he swore roundabouts were a government plot to waste concrete). The guy had a "solution" for everything, from potholes to property taxes. It was kind of amazing, really.

Hold on, banning left turns actually works in a lot of places. They do it near me and traffic flows way better at busy times. It cuts down on crashes and keeps things moving. Sure, it's not a fix for everything, but calling it a simple answer ignores that it solves a real, specific problem. Sometimes the messy problem needs a clear rule to cut through the chaos.
