My dad insists on keeping a landline for emergencies, but I haven't had one since I moved out in 2015.
He says cell towers can fail, but I think my smartphone with multiple apps and a portable charger is a better safety net, so what's your take on this generational security blanket?

Landlines are definitely more reliable during big outages. Cell networks get overloaded or lose power way faster. Your portable charger is useless if the towers themselves go down.

We kept a cheap prepaid flip phone charged up for emergencies. It runs for days on a single charge and doesn't rely on local towers as much. Grabbed a small solar charger for it too, just in case. That combo saved us during the last big storm.

But what about when the landline goes down too? Honestly both have weak spots.
