DAE think the whole 'start seeds super early' thing is just making more work?

I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but I see so many people talking about getting their seeds going months before the last frost. I did that before, and every time, my plants got all leggy and sad under the lights. I had to move them to bigger pots over and over, which took forever and felt like a chore. Last spring, I was swamped with roofing jobs and didn't plant my tomato seeds until way later. I thought I messed up, but those plants grew strong and healthy without all that extra fuss. They just sat in their starter cells a bit longer, no big deal. Now I think all that early effort is pointless if your plants aren't ready for outside yet. Sometimes patience with your setup saves you a headache down the road.

@claire836, I heard on a gardening podcast that basil can fall over if it grows too tall too quickly from rich soil. Isn't it weird how plants sometimes rush like they're in a race? Maybe your friend's plant got more warm days early this spring. Could it be a specific type of basil that just grows super fast? You'd expect it to wait for the real heat to kick in.

Whoa, @claire836, that's insane! Basil falling over before May? That's way too early. Most basil doesn't even get that tall until mid-summer if you're lucky. Your friend must have some magic soil or something, lol.
