My smartwatch kept telling me to stand up during a movie and I had to choose between ignoring it or missing the best part
I picked ignoring it, but then my watch buzzed so hard on my wrist during the quiet scene that the guy next to me in the theater actually shushed me, so has anyone found a good 'theater mode' that actually works?

That "buzzed so hard" thing is the worst. My friend's watch lit up like a tiny spotlight during a horror movie jump scare and ruined the whole moment for her row.

My theater has started making people put smartwatches in those little light blocking pouches. It's a solid policy.

Olivia's point about the pouches is a good start, but it feels like a band-aid. The real fix needs to come from the tech companies. They should make a true theater mode that locks the screen and kills all haptics with one tap, no sneaky notifications. My old watch would still buzz for heart rate alerts even in "silent mode", which is just dumb design. It shouldn't be this hard to just watch a movie in peace.
