My smart light setup blew up because of a five star review
I was SO pumped to add smart lights to my basement after seeing a perfect review online. The article said installation was a breeze and the colors were vibrant. Reality check, the wiring was confusing and the app crashed every time I tried to connect. I literally had to reset the whole hub THREE times just to get a dim blue glow. Now I am stuck with a half finished project and a bunch of useless bulbs. That review made it seem like magic, but it was just a huge headache. I really wish people would talk more about the hard parts in these gadget reviews.

Notice this happens way too often now. Saw it with a fancy coffee maker that promised cafe quality but just made lukewarm messes. @claire836 story about the smart plug fits right in. Companies pay for those perfect five star write-ups or just hide the real problems. Makes you trust nothing online anymore. They sell the dream but you get the broken app and the headache.

My buddy bought a smart plug after reading glowing reviews. He spent an hour trying to sync it before giving up completely.

Honestly, we never talk about how these gadgets assume your home wifi is perfect. Like @claire836 said, her buddy spent an hour trying, but what if his phone was a bit older or the router was in another room. Companies test these things in labs, not real houses with spotty signals. So you buy the dream of a smart home, but it fails because they didn't plan for normal life. That hour of frustration turns into a returned product and lost faith. It's not just fake reviews, it's bad design for actual people.
