Took me three days to get a proper French polish on a 1920s gramophone cabinet.

Kept getting tiny specks in the shellac. Finally got it right after switching to a brand new pad and filtering the mix twice. Anyone else fight with specks on a high gloss finish?

Filtering is key for that glassy finish. I even wipe down the whole room with a damp cloth first to kill dust. Those tiny specks will drive you absolutely nuts.

@tessa_clark74 what do you filter with, just a paint strainer or something fancier?

A 5 gallon bucket and a cheap paint strainer bag from Home Depot worked perfectly for me @phoenix198.
