A client in Boise insisted I use a 'natural' beeswax on a walnut table, and it completely clouded the grain.

I argued for a proper oil finish, but they were set on it. Has anyone else had a finish request that went against the grain of the wood itself?

My uncle's shop in Spokane had a gallon of that stuff sitting unused for years. Pure beeswax is a terrible top coat, it just sits on top and smothers the wood. You can sometimes fix it by wiping the table down with mineral spirits to cut the wax, then applying a proper oil finish over it once it's fully dry. The client might not like hearing it, but it's the only way to fix that cloudy look without a full strip and sand.

Yeah, @oscar_ellis is right, mineral spirits first is key.
