I finally said no to a lowball offer and got a better gig the next day

A potential client wanted a full website for $500, which is way under my rate, so I politely declined. The very next morning, a referral from a past job hit me up for a similar project at my full $2k price. Has anyone else found that turning down bad work actually attracts better clients?

It's like the universe rewards you for knowing your worth.

Hard disagree. The universe mostly seems to reward blind luck and being born into the right family. Knowing your worth just gets you labeled as difficult when you turn down a bad offer.

My old boss at the hardware store always said an empty shelf sells faster than one full of junk. Turning down that $500 job basically cleared the shelf for the good stuff. It sends a quiet signal you're not desperate, and the right people pick up on that.
