I bought a $300 'client magnet' course from a guy in Austin and got nothing but a PDF
It was all about using weird LinkedIn tricks to find leads, but the advice was so old it didn't work anymore. I followed it for a week and got zero replies, just wasted my time and money. Has anyone found a better way to get new clients that actually works now?

My own "client magnet" was a $500 webinar that taught me to cold call from a script written in 2012. I became a magnet for hang-ups. The only thing that finally worked was just talking to people in online groups for my niche, answering questions for free. It took a few months but real conversations beat weird tricks every time.

So you just hung out and answered questions without asking for anything. Did you ever feel pressure to turn those free talks into paid work, or did clients just come to you naturally after a while? I'm trying to figure out the line between being helpful and accidentally working for free forever.

Wow, this is exactly what happened with me too. I tried all those "client magnet" gimmicks and just ended up feeling like a pushy salesperson. But once I just started being genuinely helpful in Facebook groups, people would DM me asking how to work with me. Honestly, the paying gigs came way faster than I expected once they saw I actually knew my stuff for free first. The key is to just keep showing up and being useful without the pressure.
