Question about using bentonite in our green sand mix

My foreman in Toledo told me to cut our bentonite by 10% to save cash. Tried it for a week on our iron pours. Castings came out with way more surface defects, mostly gas holes. Had to scrap three big pieces. Anyone else run into problems when they tweaked their clay content?

Ever wonder why the old guys never mess with the recipe? Tbh, @joseph_adams66's story proves it, you save a few bucks on clay just to lose a ton on scrap. Honestly, some things just aren't worth cutting.

Cutting corners always costs more in the end, just like that pallet of scrap.
