Just realized my sand mix was off because of a humidity tip from a guy in Cleveland
He said my green sand was too wet for the humidity in our shop, which explained why my cores kept crumbling. I started checking the moisture with a simple squeeze test before each shift and it made a huge difference. Has anyone else had to adjust their sand prep for different weather?

Man, that tracks. We had a batch of mortar go totally weird last summer because of a sudden humid spell. The bricklayer just kept muttering about the air feeling like soup.

Forget humidity, check your sand's temperature before you even mix it. Cold sand straight from storage in a damp shop won't take water the same way, it just beads up. Letting the pile warm up to shop temp for a few hours fixed our inconsistent mold hardness last winter.

Oh perfect, just what we needed. Another hidden variable to watch. First we're checking the sky for humidity, now we're babysitting a pile of sand like it's a fussy toddler that needs to warm up. Next you'll tell me the phase of the moon changes the cure time. My shop is just a fancy science lab for dirt and water at this point.
