Shoutout to the grower in Portland who talked me into trying ranunculus over anemones for a spring wedding order
I was set on anemones for their bold centers, but after he showed me how ranunculus hold up better in variable temperatures and last a full 10 days in the arrangement, I switched the whole $1200 order and the bride was thrilled with the softer, layered look.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I was dead set on peonies for my sister's baby shower... the florist gently pointed out they bruise if you look at them wrong and suggested garden roses instead. I was so annoyed at first, but she was totally right. They looked perfect for days and didn't drop petals all over the food. Sometimes you just have to trust the person who handles flowers every single day.

Ugh my friend insisted on lilies for her wedding centerpieces. The florist warned her about the pollen stains but she didn't listen. Her mom's dress got ruined before the ceremony even started.

@parkerp80 That story about the lilies is a perfect example. I read a whole article about how florists basically have a secret list of "problem flowers" for events. It makes sense to listen when they warn you about things like stains or wilting.
