Overheard a client at the Portland Flower Market say they'd never buy carnations again.
She was telling her friend they were 'cheap funeral flowers' and it made me pause. I used to think the same, but I've been forcing myself to use them in bright, modern arrangements for the last six months. It's changed how I see them, and my customers are actually commenting on the pops of color. Has anyone else had success rebranding a flower with a bad reputation?

Last spring I took a bunch of those green spider mums people always pass over and packed them tight in a clear cube vase. Just one type of flower. They looked so architectural and cool, not dated at all. A bride saw it and asked for them in her centerpieces. Now I use them all the time. It’s wild how a fresh setup can change everything.

My buddy runs a small shop and he was stuck with a ton of baby's breath after a big wedding order fell through. He was so annoyed with it, calling it filler trash. But he got creative and made these tiny, dense cloud-like bundles wrapped in black ribbon. Posted a pic online and it blew up. Now he sells them as "goth fairy bouquets" for like twenty bucks a pop. Totally flipped the script on a flower everyone writes off.
