My aunt told me to stop using floral foam for my big wedding jobs.

She said it was bad for the water and that chicken wire with wet moss would hold just as well. I tried it on a 75-person wedding in Boise last June, and the centerpieces fell apart before the cake was cut. Has anyone else found a good way to make big pieces without the foam?

Yeah, I saw a florist on Instagram using those plastic cage things you fill with moss. Looked pretty solid for bigger arrangements.

Seen those cages too and they look good online but fall apart in real life. Tried one for a wedding arch last year and the plastic snapped under the wet moss weight. You end up needing so much wire to reinforce it that you might as well build a proper base from the start. For big stuff, chicken wire and zip ties never let me down.
