Changed my mind about using floral foam for big event centerpieces

I always used the green foam blocks for wedding centerpieces because it's what I learned with. Last month, I had a 200-guest reception in Charlotte and tried chicken wire cages instead. The foam pieces dried out by hour three, and the roses started to droop. The chicken wire setups held water better, stayed fresh looking for the full six hours, and were way easier to break down. I'm switching for all my future large events. Has anyone else made this switch and found a good source for the wire?

You must have had a bad batch of foam or not soaked it long enough. Properly prepped foam holds water for over 12 hours, no problem. Chicken wire is a pain to shape and offers zero support for delicate stems. I’ve seen whole arrangements collapse because the wire just can’t hold them upright like foam does.

Ugh, I'm still finding dried green foam crumbs in my car from my last floral disaster.
