Had to choose between a floating floor and a glue down for a basement job in February
Customer wanted LVP for their finished basement in St. Paul. I had to pick between the click lock floating stuff or a glue down product. I went with glue down because of the temperature swings down there. It took longer to install but after a week I checked back and no gaps or buckles. The floating floor would have had issues with the cold concrete slab for sure. Anyone else run into problems with click lock in basements up north?

Oh man that's a smart call on the glue down. I feel like everybody gets sold on click lock being the easy way out but nobody talks about how finicky it gets with cold slabs. It's kind of like how people buy all these gadgets for their car to save time but then spend hours trying to figure out the instructions. Sometimes the slower route really is the better one.

Read an article about this actually that was saying how glue down is way better for basements because the moisture from the slab can mess with click lock over time... something about the locking mechanism swelling up and then your floor starts buckling. Makes sense when you think about it, concrete is always gonna have some moisture even if it feels dry to the touch. The click lock stuff is nice for a quick weekend project but you're right, people don't think about what happens five years down the road when the temperature changes and everything shifts around. Glue down is definitely the slower route but feels like the one that actually holds up.

@alicesingh nailed it with the moisture thing. Reminds me of how people rush through anything just to get it done, then wonder why it falls apart later. Slow and steady wins the race, but nobody wants to admit that when there's a shortcut staring them in the face.
