Dropped $80 on a fancy rice cooker that can't even boil rice right
I bought a Zojirushi last month thinking it would change my life, but the rice comes out mushy every single time. Followed the instructions to the letter, measured water perfectly, nada. My $15 Walmart steamer from 2019 works better than this thing. Anyone else get burned by a kitchen gadget that's all hype?

The Zojirushi rice cooker you got might actually need a specific water to rice ratio thats different from what the label says. I had the same mushy problem with mine until I figured out that the lines inside the pot are for the rice itself, not for the water level. For white rice you gotta fill the water to the line that matches the number of cups of rice you put in, but you need to use the plastic cup that came with it not a regular measuring cup. Thats a super common mistake people make.

Man, I read somewhere you gotta rinse the rice first or it comes out all gluey.

Stop blaming the machine and start measuring right. Those lines inside the pot are for RICE, not water, and you HAVE to use the little plastic cup that came with it. That was my exact problem for like two weeks straight. Once I switched to the official cup and filled water to the right line, everything came out perfect. Also make sure you rinse the rice until the water runs clear first, that makes a huge difference. Your Walmart steamer probably works because it just steams everything the same way with no fuss.
