Pro tip: my 5-gallon pickle bucket started bubbling over and I stuck a plastic bag filled with rice under the lid as a weight.

The bag ripped after two days and now my whole kitchen smells like kimchi, but it actually kept everything submerged perfectly until then, has anyone else used a weird kitchen item as a fermentation weight in a pinch?

My buddy used a clean rock once, but @hugo_schmidt would probably call that a bad idea too. It worked until his jar cracked from the pressure.

Try a zip-top bag filled with brine next time.
