My sauerkraut crock cracked after 3 years - is it worth fixing or time to toss?
The ceramic ring on my 5-liter crock split straight down the middle during a batch last week, and I'm stuck between trying to seal it with food-grade epoxy or just buying a new one for $45. Has anyone here successfully repaired a cracked fermentation crock, or do you always replace them?

Holy crap, beeswax on a fermentation crock? That's insane, mold city for sure!

Hold up, did the crack go all the way through to the inside or is it just on the outer ring? Thats a big difference. If its just the outer rim you might be fine sealing it with food-grade epoxy and keeping an eye on it, but if that split goes deep into the clay where the brine sits you're basically asking for bacteria to hide in there and ruin your next batch of kraut. I've seen people try to patch those cracks with epoxy and then have the whole thing fail six months later, plus you gotta worry about the epoxy leeching into your ferment. Three years is a pretty good run for a $45 crock though, maybe just put it out of its misery and grab a new one.
