All this plastic from my ferments is driving me nuts
I keep buying new lids and airlocks that just end up in the trash. It feels bad because I want to be good for the planet with my food.

The guilt is real" hits home, my last airlock is held together with duct tape and hope.

What kind of fermenting setup do you usually use? I feel that same frustration every time I have to toss a cracked plastic lid, and I've been trying to just reuse the lids from store-bought pickle jars for my kraut, even if they get a little rusty.

Man, I get that totally. My kitchen drawer is full of single-use ferment stuff too. It's like when you buy in bulk to cut down on plastic, but then you have all those bags from the store. This happens everywhere now, we swap out one problem for another without really fixing things. With ferments, maybe there are glass weights or cloth covers that last longer, but even they have their own problems. I've started just reusing jars and lids until they fall apart, but it's not perfect. The guilt is real though, wanting to do right by the planet while just making food.
