Was reading a local history book about my town and found out the first fence law here, from 1872, required a 'hog-tight, horse-high, and bull-strong' fence. The fine for a bad one was $5 and a day in the county jail.

My own fence building skills would have bankrupted me back then. I tried to put up a simple garden fence last year and it couldn't even keep out a determined squirrel. A bull would have laughed at it.
