Remembering when a client in Dayton asked for a split-rail fence with no power tools, just like his grandpa built.
Last week I was setting posts with a gas auger, last month I was using a laser level for a vinyl run, but three years ago I spent a whole October in that muddy field with just a post hole digger, a maul, and a pile of locust rails, and honestly, my back still hurts but I kinda miss the quiet of it.

Buddy of mine did a whole stone wall like that once, swore he'd never do it again.

Yeah that sounds about right, @the_morgan. I tried a small garden border once and my back was messed up for a week, lol. I can't even imagine doing a whole wall, that's a special kind of crazy. Your buddy is a stronger person than me, I would have quit after the first three stones. That kind of work makes you question all your life choices.

Question all your life choices" is right, but have you ever thought about how many of those stones get moved twice when you mess up the pattern?
