My crew's post-hole digger was getting stuck every third hole in this heavy clay soil near Chattanooga.
Switched from a standard auger to a clay auger with the wider, serrated flights, and we went from a 45-minute fight to a clean hole in under 5 minutes. Anyone else have a go-to tool for that kind of nasty, gumbo clay?

Spot the same thing everywhere, people fighting the wrong tool for the job. They'll spend hours forcing something that just isn't built for the conditions. That switch from a standard auger to the right one is the whole game. It's not about working harder, it's about finally working smart.

Read somewhere that wetting the clay a little first can make a huge difference, is that true?
