Tried asking for no salt on my fries so they'd make a fresh batch. Worker said they just dump them back in the oil for 10 seconds.

I thought I was being clever at a Burger King in Phoenix last Tuesday. Ordered fries with no salt thinking they'd have to make a new basket. Watched the guy grab a handful from the bin, drop them in the fryer for a quick dunk, and hand them over. They were somehow greasier and soggier than the regular ones. Anyone else get played by this trick?

Yeah, that's the dirty secret of the fast food world. Next time just ask for a fresh batch without the "no salt" trick, they might actually respect the honesty.

Read a piece online saying the real trick is just asking for it cooked to order at off peak hours. Most places will do it if you're polite and not in the middle of a lunch rush.

And here's the thing nobody's talking about, most of those fry bins have a little built in heater that slowly dries them out, so a quick re-dip actually makes them worse because now they've got that old oil taste plus fresh grease on top. If you really want fresh fries you gotta order something that takes a while like a chicken sandwich or a fish filet, that way your fries are sitting in the warming rack getting cold while they cook the main item so you can politely ask for a new batch when you pick it up. I tried this at a Wendy's once and the manager actually apologized and handed me a fresh basket from the back, it was the best fast food fry experience I've had in years.
