Talking to a McDonald's cook changed how I see their breakfast
I was grabbing a sausage biscuit last week around 7 AM and this older guy behind the counter saw me looking at the menu. He started talking about how they microwave the eggs for the McMuffins and I honestly never thought about it before. He said the biscuit sandwiches are the only thing actually made fresh because they bake those in-house. I asked why the scrambled eggs are so rubbery and he just laughed and said they come pre-cooked in a bag. That conversation hit different because now I can't unsee it. Every time I grab a McMuffin I just taste that microwave texture. Has anyone else heard stuff like this straight from the people working there?

Have you considered that the whole "fresh vs processed" debate might be missing the real point here? What that cook was really telling you is that McDonald's has built their whole system around consistency, not quality. The reason they microwave eggs and use bagged scrambled eggs is so a McMuffin in Alaska tastes exactly like one in Florida. It's a trade-off, but it's also why you can walk into any McDonald's anywhere and know exactly what you're getting. The biscuit sandwiches are the exception because they just can't mass produce a good biscuit that travels well, so they commit to baking those on site. That's actually kind of impressive when you think about it, even if it does ruin the magic a bit.

Man, that's rough. It's wild how one little peek behind the curtain can totally ruin a thing you used to enjoy.
