Guy at the drive thru window told me my fries were 'too fresh'

I was at a McDonald's near the airport in Phoenix and the guy handing me my bag just sighed and said 'these fries are too fresh, they're gonna be limp in 2 minutes.' Then he literally held up the line to make me a new batch. He stood there watching me eat one and asked 'better?' I mean he was right but it was the weirdest interaction I've had in a fast food line. Has anyone else had a worker that took their job way too seriously?

Actually, the guy you dealt with might have been onto something bigger. That "too fresh" thing is a real problem with airport McDonald's because they fry everything in such huge batches to keep up with the rush. I dated a guy who worked fast food and he said the fries have a perfect window of about 90 seconds before they start getting that soggy texture. The employees who actually care about that narrow window are usually the ones who've been burned by bad reviews or had a manager yell at them about it. So yeah, he was taking his job seriously but probably because he's been blamed for limp fries before when it's really the system's fault.

That 90 second window is real. I used to work at a burger place in college and we had a timer for fries but management would still get mad if we tossed a batch that sat too long. Best advice I can give is just ask for no salt. They have to make a fresh batch and you get control over the salt yourself.

That no salt trick is the only reliable way to get hot fries.
