Thought I was getting scammed selling my old car for $800 cash

A guy from a local Facebook group said he'd come by with the money that night, which sounded sketchy. He showed up in a beat-up truck with a wad of twenties and asked zero questions about the title. I was sure it was a fake cash situation, but I checked each bill with one of those marker pens. All real. He just wanted the engine for a project and drove off with the car on a trailer. Has anyone else had a cash deal feel totally wrong but turn out fine?

Funny how the scariest looking deals sometimes go the smoothest. It's like the universe's way of reminding us not to judge a book by its cover. Had a similar thing happen with a lawnmower last summer.

Wait, you're saying that lawnmower deal went smooth even though it looked Sketchy from the start? @olivia_harris19 I gotta push back a little on that. Not about your story specifically, but about the whole "don't judge a book" thing. Sometimes the cover IS telling you something real. Like leelewis said with that truck, a beat up exterior can mean someone didn't take care of the guts either. People tend to neglect things they let get rusty or banged up on the outside. I'm not saying every rough looking deal is bad, but I've seen plenty where that first impression was spot on. You just gotta be careful and check everything real close before handing over cash.

Actually, that smooth deal might just be luck. The scary looking ones usually go wrong in my experience. Bought a truck last year that seemed fine but the transmission blew two weeks later. Sometimes the cover tells you exactly what's inside.
