Realized my garage sale flips were losing money until I started checking sold prices on my phone before buying last Sunday

I picked up a box of old tools for $40 that I thought were worth $200, but after actually looking up completed sales I saw the whole lot was only worth $60, and I almost did the same thing again yesterday with a lamp I was sure was valuable - has anyone else caught themselves overpaying for stuff just because it looked old?

Learned that lesson myself when I bought a box of vintage cameras for what I thought was a steal and found out later most of them weren't worth the shipping cost.

Yeah @iris574, I started checking sold listings on eBay first and that saved me a ton.

Still stings when I remember paying $40 for a broken Polaroid that wasn't even worth film.
