Vent: Tried a weird fabric combo on a skirt mock-up and it actually worked
I was messing around with some leftover scraps, a stiff cotton canvas and a super drapey rayon, and just basted them together to see what would happen for a structured A-line skirt. The unexpected weight and movement from the two layers gave it this cool, architectural sort of swing I never could have planned. Has anyone else gotten a happy accident from mixing fabrics with totally different hand feels?

Read something once about designers doing that on purpose, calling it a "contrast in hand." Makes total sense now, that combo sounds perfect.

Oh man, my happy accidents usually involve me trying to fuse quilting cotton to sweater knit and getting a lumpy mess that looks like a science project. That combo sounds awesome though, like getting the structure to hold the shape but the rayon makes it move. I had a weird win once with a stiff taffeta lining under a slinky viscose, it gave a dress this weird, cool crinkly sound when I walked. Total fluke.
