Tried making a dress from old bedsheets and got a weird compliment i didnt expect

Last weekend i finally used up that stack of vintage floral bedsheets my grandma gave me 2 years ago. I stitched together a simple a-line dress with a gathered waist, nothing fancy. Wore it to the grocery store and a lady stopped me at the dairy aisle to ask if it was from a 90s catalog. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing but she said it looked nostalgically perfect. So that got me wondering - has anyone else gotten weird feedback on upcycled clothes that made you second guess your design choices?

That 90s catalog comment would live rent free in my head forever.

That lady at the store probably meant it as a compliment but honestly i'd be a little confused too. Like is "90s catalog" the look you were going for or not? Hard to tell if that means it's dated in a good way or a bad way. Did she say anything else about the fabric pattern? Sometimes people latch onto the nostalgia of it all and that's what they really mean.
