That invisible zipper trick from a $15 online course saved me from trashing 3 finished dresses last month

I kept ripping seams on silk charmeuse until I tried basting the zipper tape to the seam allowance first instead of pressing the coils, and now I'm actually using the technique on a poly chiffon piece for a client's wedding in Austin next week - has anyone else found a random hack that fixed a recurring sewing nightmare?

Man, that basting trick is gold for tricky fabrics. I've been there with a slippery polyester blend where the zipper kept shifting and I just wanted to toss the whole project out the window. Once you get the tape tacked down right, everything else falls into place, trust me.

Basting seams feels like overkill for most basic zippers though.

I had to google "invisible zipper trick" after reading this because honestly I thought everyone just basted the tape first. That's like the first thing I learned in home ec back in 2002. Are we really acting like a $15 course is saving lives here? Seems like basic sewing 101 to me, but I guess if it keeps people from tossing dresses then whatever works lol.
