Tbh, learning to drape with muslin made me a better designer

Honestly, I used to skip making mock-ups because I thought it was extra work for no reason. My clothes would come out bunching or pulling in weird spots every time. Then a friend showed me how she drapes with cheap muslin to test her patterns first. Ngl, watching her pin and adjust the fabric on a dress form totally changed my view. I started practicing with muslin myself and saw how it lets you fix fit issues before cutting good fabric. Now I do a mock-up for every design, and my pieces actually look how I picture them. It saved me so much frustration and wasted material. I wish I had tried this way sooner.

Seriously, muslin is the only way I catch things like drag lines or tight armholes before they ruin good fabric. Like @bennett.riley said, people fight the process until they see it work. I even mark my alterations right on the muslin with a sharpie so I don't forget the changes when I cut the final pattern.

Yeah I was totally the guy who thought it was a waste of time. Then I wrecked two yards of this expensive linen. Now I'm a muslin believer for life.

You ever see someone refuse to try the obvious fix? My friend kept fighting with these uneven curtains she was making, getting mad when the seams were off. She finally tried pinning up a muslin version first and it was like watching a light switch flip in her head.
